- The problem
- A $3,500 monthly bill for Twilio Flex that grew with every agent added.
- What I built
- A custom contact center on Twilio, using the same Twilio phone numbers.
- The result
- The monthly cost dropped to $1,500, a saving of $2,000 a month or $24,000 a year (about 57%).
The situation
A business was running its phone team on Twilio Flex and paying $3,500 every month. The bill rose with each agent they added, and their team still had to look customers up and type notes by hand after every call.
They liked Twilio for what it does well: reliable phone numbers and call handling. They did not want to move numbers or disturb customers. They wanted to stop paying a premium for the screen their agents work in.
What I did
I kept Twilio and the existing Twilio phone numbers as the foundation, so customers kept dialling the same numbers and nothing changed for them. Then I replaced the expensive agent layer on top with a purpose-built contact center designed around how this team actually works.
The agent panel now does the routine work for the agent, so they can spend their time on the caller.
What the team gets
- Customer details on screen the moment a call lands, pulled from their existing customer records
- Calls answered automatically when an agent is free
- A 60-second wrap-up after each call, then the agent is ready for the next one
- The reason for every call saved straight into the CRM notes, so nobody types it twice
- Call queues and routing
- Complete contact center reports
- A repeated callers report, showing who keeps calling back and why, so the business can fix the cause
The result
The monthly cost came down from $3,500 to $1,500. That is $2,000 less every month, $24,000 a year.
This is one project. Your saving depends on how many agents you have, how many calls you handle and which features you use today, so treat it as an example and not a promise.
Is this right for you?
It tends to suit voice-focused teams whose Flex bill keeps growing and who want their calls tied closely to their CRM. A very small team may not save enough to justify a custom build, and I will tell you so honestly. If Flex is the better choice for you, I will say that too.
Questions
Did the business have to move its phone numbers?
No. The contact center is built on Twilio and uses the same Twilio phone numbers, so customers noticed no change.
Will I save the same amount?
Not necessarily. This was one project. Send me your rough Flex bill and number of agents and I will give you an honest estimate.
